Development[]
"Broadchurch Series 3" was confirmed at the end credits of Series 2 on the 23 February 2015, with "BROADCHURCH WILL RETURN!" This was done very similar with the commissioning of Series 2.
The commissioning of a third series was very controversial, with various sites confirming that ITV had confirmed it throughout January, which turned out to be false and to be rumours. The future of the series was also up in the air as Series 2 received a mixed reaction overall but the second half of the series received better reviews and overall acclaim. It was officially confirmed in February 2015.
Creator, Chris Chibnall was very excited about ITV commissioning the series, saying "This third chapter has been a glint in my eye for a long time and I’m thrilled to be writing these characters once again." [2]
The series will air in February 2017, so filming of the series will commense in the months to come.
Also on the 23 February, 2015, lead actors, David Tennant and Olivia Colman were both confirmed to return to the show with both of them returning as Alec Hardy and Ellie Miller[3].
